Transcription: After the United States won the race to the moon, the Russians concentrated on Earth orbit space stations beginning with the Salyut series and culminating with the Mir space station. With the addition of three modules, Mir houses an observatory, a crystal growing laboratory, and comfortable quarters for the crew, several of whom have spent over a year in space.
